Frequently Asked Questions
Security Assessments for Educators
Frequently Asked Questions
1.  How are schools affording SAFE School site security
assessments?

There are several ways schools have made school security
assessments affordable.  First, and most commonly used, is for the
school to levy a “school security fee.”  We recommend this strategy
because for less than the cost of the typical “supply fee”, the annual
security fee can pay for the site security assessment every three years
and the funds collected during the off-years can be used to implement
or improve existing security processes.

A second option for paying for our services is to have a local company
sponsor the assessment.  If a school uses a sponsor to pay for the
service, we will include the sponsor’s name and/or logo on the cover of
the up to ten, professionally-bound reports.

Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind is that the
assessment should pay for itself many times over.  How many additional
students do you need in order to pay for the assessment?  Being able
to say that you are a
SAFE-certified school (and perhaps the only local
one) will be a strong draw for parents when deciding which school their
child should attend.

SAFE School does not want finances to keep any school from being
able to be a
SAFE School.  We are committed to working with each
school to make comfortable financial arrangements to ensure that our
vision and mission of seeing every school in America assessed every
three years come to fruition.

2.  We have a staff member with law enforcement and security
experience.  Why do we still need to have a SAFE site security
assessment performed?

A site safety and security assessment report is recommended by the
federal government and should be obtained from an independent,
professional organization.  The differences between law enforcement
training and educators are unique and conducting an exceptional,
thorough, efficient assessment requires specialized training acquired
through multiple school security courses, school safety experience, and
best practices established by nationally-recognized corporations.

3.  What will our school get from a SAFE site security
assessment?

All schools that receive a SAFE School site safety and security
assessment will receive up to ten, professionally-bound reports
containing the assessment.  The average assessment is 25-30 pages
for a school between 100-300 students.  Assessments of schools with
300 students or more receive assessments that range between 30-50
pages (due to size/number of buildings).  In addition to the ten reports,
each school will receive
SAFE School Certificates of School Security.  A
beautiful, customized plaque will also be awarded to the school
certifying it as a member of
SAFE.

Your school will receive much more than professionally-bound reports,
certificates, and plaques.  Your staff, students, parents, and community
as a whole will receive peace of mind and find comfort in the fact that
their local school is concerned about the safety and security of the lives
with which they are entrusted.  In addition, your school becomes the
school of choice.  You receive marketing rights to
SAFE School’s logo
for up to three years from the assessment date.  You are able to put
this on marketing materials that go out from your school.

4.  Is SAFE willing to participate in the school board meeting
when discussing the acquisition of SAFE’s services?

SAFE
will make itself available for board or committee meetings.  We
believe that the security of our children is of prominent importance and
will work to attend, live or via conference call, all requested meetings.
We would ask that all those asking questions will have first reviewed
our website, www.a
SAFEschool.com, and become familiar with the
proposal.  This will ensure everyone’s time is efficiently consumed.
Travel costs and expenses incurred during this process should be
covered by the school or district requesting the meeting.

5.  Does SAFE provide any ongoing information or security and
safety updates past the assessment?

SAFE
has an email distribution list that it maintains in order to send out
a monthly security tip.  We do send periodic safety and security
updates.  To be added to our distribution, please visit
www.
aSAFEschool.com and input your information in the “Contact Us” page.

6.  How soon can a SAFE site assessment be scheduled for?

This depends on the number of scheduled assessments and the travel
schedule of our site security specialists.  We are generally able to
accommodate the requested dates.  We prefer to schedule the
assessments a minimum of 1-2 months in advance.

It is important to note that we strive to meet our vision and mission of
seeing every school in America assessed every three years by offering
a discount on the initial assessment if the school schedules their three
year follow-up assessment at the time their first assessment is
ordered.  A $1,000 non-refundable deposit must be paid for the third
year’s assessment to receive the discount and is deducted from the
amount of the assessment at that time.

7.  How far out can a SAFE site assessment be scheduled?

We book assessments for up to three years out.  Payment in full is
required when submitting the  Project Work Order and scheduling an
assessment.

8.  Would a representative from SAFE be willing to speak at a
special school event or community event?

SAFE
would be honored to speak at one of your school events (church,
graduation, orientation, open house, etc.).  Please contact our office to
make arrangements.  We do ask that travel expenses be provided by
the requesting party.

9.  Why should we order a SAFE site security assessment right
now?

The most important reason you should order a SAFE site security
assessment right now is because it emphasizes your ongoing
commitment to protecting your staff and student body.  Schools cannot
afford to wait until an incident occurs.  At that point, it is too late.  They
must pro-actively address the school security issue and it starts, per
federal recommendations, with a site safety and security assessment,
performed by an independent, professional organization.  Simply put,
schools cannot afford to wait.  Any negative media exposure of this sort
could be devastating and result in a school closure or stereotype that
will take years to overcome and rebuild student population.

10.  When is the best time of the year for SAFE to conduct a site
security assessment?

Now.  There is value in assessing schools when school is in session
and out of session.  This should not be a major consideration as the
most important aspect is to get one done as soon as possible.

11.  Who is SAFE School and what qualifies them to do our site
security assessment?

SAFE
School is an organization that conducts site safety and security
assessments for schools that evaluates the community, criminal data,
school floor plan, all buildings and grounds, evacuation plans, law
enforcement response times and capacity, crisis notification systems,
and crisis communication protocol.

SAFE School is qualified to conduct your independent, professional
safety and security assessment because of the extensive compilation of
research that is put behind our assessments.  This information is
passed through education forums to our site security specialists to
ensure maximum knowledge of the industry.  We are advised by a
combination of current school administrators, law enforcement, and a
twelve-year, Navy Seal veteran.  Our industry knowledge, continuing
school safety, and established best practices from conducting site
security assessments qualifies
SAFE School to perform your site
security assessment.  You can trust your school to
SAFE’s
assessment.

We work for the school.  Many state and federal auditors and
inspectors work for the government.  If a breach is suspected or
observed, the government assessor is legally required to inform the
appropriate agency to move forward with fines or other measures such
as school closure.  By you pro-actively hiring
SAFE, you are able to
understand and be aware of areas of vulnerability or susceptibility in a
non-threatening environment.  We are your friend.  Our assessments
allow you to take or implement corrective action without a regulatory
body governing your obedience and conduciveness.  You do not have
to fear our findings and the effect they will have on your school.

You can trust
SAFE because we began doing site security
assessments for schools before they were popular.  Our mission is not
to make money; it is to see every school in America receive a tri-annual
security assessment.

12.  Why aren’t there other site security assessment companies
that are focused on servicing private and Christian schools?

While there are other companies that can conduct site security
assessments, most of them are too expensive for private or Christian
schools.  This factor, despite their lack of knowledge and philosophy by
which private and Christian schools operate from, has prohibited them
from seeing the private/Christian school vertical as a viable market.
The bottom line is they see a business, we see a need.  The lack of
margin and lack of being able to relate and understand the
premise/principles that private and Christian schools follow makes it a
challenging market.

13.  How do SAFE’s assessment prices compare to site
assessments for corporations?

Workplace safety and security assessments charge significantly higher
than
SAFE School.  It is based on number and size of offices and often
involves multiple facilities across the country or internationally.  The
challenge in comparing these two is that it is impossible to create an
apples-to-apples comparison since all other security assessment firms
change their pricing on a proposal-by-proposal basis based on the firm’
s ability to pay and depth of pockets.  We publicize our low, all-inclusive
fixed cost to take all surprises out of the process.  In addition, most
corporate site assessment firms are analyzing data destruction
procedures and processes along with security clearance based on
personally-identifiable information (PII) and sensitive personally-
identifiable information (SPII).
SAFE addresses these issues in how it
secures the school's offices and record keeping practices.

14.  How is SAFE able to offer its services at such low prices?

Our focus is on serving schools in the United States.  To fulfill our
primary focus, we realize that providing low-cost solutions while
delivering high-quality results are mandatory.  We believe that when
you acquire
SAFE’s services, you are acquiring the highest level of
quality and performance available in the industry, both public and
private, for profit and non-profit, available today.  We carefully control
all aspects of the security assessment process to ensure the highest
levels of efficiency and automation which allows us to implement
technology solutions that reduce expenses.

We never want price to keep a school from receiving a security
assessment.  Contact

security assessment for your school or to enroll in our Custom Dynamic

*The safety of our children is not negotiable!*
SAFE's vision and
mission statement is to
see every school in
America receive a
tri-annual site security
assessment.
SAFE School assesses all aspects of the
building and its safety and security
including policies, procedures, and staff
interviews.  However, contracting
SAFE's
services in no way guarantees that your
school will not have a security breach or
crisis.  It is
SAFE's goal to document,
point out, and make aware potential
areas of vulnerability to better prevent a
crisis from happening.
SAFE is not
responsible for any school crisis of the
schools it assesses since it does not
require the safety and security
enhancements it recommends to be
implemented.
